Conceding an easy goal giving the two teams a one-all draw at half time
And something to fight for in the second-half. A disappointing call by the Referee awarding
Balcatta a penalty gave them a 2 - 1 break with 20 mins to go in the game. With the
Cockburn Ladies defending hard to keep the net goalless, Jo Steer and Kristina Antonic
missed on some near goals yet to have Stephanie Figueira run onto a through ball finishing the game with two goals and a 2 - all draw

On Sunday Armadale host Cockburn City at the Alfred Skeet Oval (3pm) Cockburn City needed an injury-time winner to defeat Fremantle Spirit last time out, and new Coach Mirko Jelicic will hope for an improvement this weekend. Cockburn’s defence was tighter last week with young keeper Dejan Aleksic and defender Liam Lilly solid. The midfield of the Cockerels is talented and with Johnny and Michael Mirco leading the way along with youngster Aaron dos Santos.

The game started fast & furious and Cockburn players were going down injured like 10 Pins, within the first 30 minutes we had 2 players unavailable for the rest of the game. Then the goals started to flow into the back of the net like cold beer from a tap!
Once again thanks to our hundreds of fans who come and support the team & thanks to Alistair Edwards for refeeing the match.

Round 1

Swan IC began their 2008 campaign with a hard fought 3-1 victory against Cockburn City at Francis Street . The visitors opened brightly and had the ball in the net on five minutes, Michael Mirco was the architect his run and cross found Aaron dos Santos who scored low past Cory Hugo, but assistant linesman David Currie had his flag raised for offside and the goal was disallowed. Cockburn looked bright and from Paul Natale's cross on eight minutes Michael Mirco's low shot was well saved by Cory Hugo. Then in their first real attack the Swans hit the front, David Perich sent Damian Scali clear down the right, he cut inside and crossed to the unmarked Alex Cocking at the back post who scored from close-range. Shell shocked City hit back Johnny Mirco's in-swinging corner was punched clear by Cory Hugo and on 15 minutes Michael Mirco went down under a tackle from David McNally but referee Hugh Best waved away their penalty protest. It was a different story sixty seconds later, John Mansaray sent Perich clear and as was brought down by keeper Dejan Aleksic and the referee pointed to the spot. Scali kept his nerve sending Aleksic the wrong way to double their lead. There were chances at both ends as the game opened up, Michael Mirco was denied by Cory Hugo on 23 minutes and on the half-hour Perich's shot was well saved by Aleksic. Swans keeper Cory Hugo again came to his sides rescue with a stunning double save, first denying Michael Mirco and was alert to block Dos Santos' follow up. Cockburn pressed late but lacked the final ball and at the break it was 2-0 to the Swans. Cockburn pressed early in the second half with Michael Mirco firing over from 12-yards, but it was the Swans who went the closest to increasing their lead. Perich's long-range shot flew inches past the post and on the hour Dom Ando's free kick was tipped over the bar by the alert Aleksic. The visitors received a lifeline two minutes later; Johnny Mirco was quickest to react to a deflected clearance from Aaron Cole and finished clinically past Cory Hugo. It was game on, and Cockburn began to dominate, Hugo saved low from a Liam Lilly's long-range shot and reacted superbly when defender David McNally sliced a clearance. The Swans shot stopper prevented Cockburn from levelling on 78 minutes with a stunning save to deny Dos Santos, and the points were wrapped up on 85 minutes. Second half substitute Justin Hugo's surging run ended with a cracking shot which cannoned back off the post, Scali's follow up shot was blocked and when the ball returned to Justin Hugo on the edge of the box the defender fired home, much to the delight of the Swans faithful . Cockburn weren't finished yet, Dusan Macura's low shot bounced off the foot of the post and Ando cleared the rebound. At the final whistle it was Swans Coach Paul Lincoln who celebrated his first league win as a senior coach.

COCKBURN CITY -v- LYNWOOD
19 August 2007
Cockburn Ladies started the game with great enthusiasm and skill. Working the ball through Lynwood's Defence to open to a 1‑0 lead by Kristina Antonic in the 10th minute of the game. Not long after, our top goal scorer Jo Steer - who is likely to take out the Golden Boot for the Division, scored to give Cockburn a 2-0 lead at half-time. After a team discussion at half-time to score more goals for a big win to keep our chances high for the TOP 4 CUP, we came out ready to finish off the game with a win. Cockburn's Defence kept a scoreless net with their great efficiency to win every ball in the air lead by their Sweeper and Captain Giulia DeCecco. Midfield working hard, providing Kristina Antonic with another one-on-one chance with the Keeper. Slipping the ball past the Keeper keeping Cockburn ahead, Jo Steer added another goal to her tally - giving Cockburn a 4-0 lead. With Lynwood working hard to keep us from scoring any more goals but not good enough to keep hungry Cockburn's Stephanie Battista from scoring a fantastic shot on goal outside the box. Chipping the Keeper from Jo Steer's cross and Rubina DeCecco scoring her second goal for the Season from outside the box, gave Cockburn Ladies a 6-0 victory.
…..Celebrations!

Cockburn vs. Swan IC With the League in the safe keeping of Floreat Athena for another season the Soccer Pools Cup takes centre stage this weekend with Cockburn City entertaining Swan IC in the semi-final of the Soccer Pools cup at Dalmatinac Park this Saturday (3.00pm).
Swan IC’s season to date hasn’t been the best, but the Swan Valley club seems to keep their best for the Cup competition, winning back to back cups in 2003 and 2004 and losing on penalties last season to Stirling Lions. A strong performance in the quarter-finals saw the black and whites win 3-1 at Armadale and a big game is needed on Saturday if Carlo Scali’s side is to continue their Cup success.
The Swans will look to Captain Cory Hugo to hold the defence tight, and Aaron Cole, Robert Monterosso and youngster David McNally will need to be on their game against a potent Cockburn strike force. Up front Thomas Shepheard has been superb this season for the Swans and he will have to be watched closely by the Cockburn defence.
It’s been a great first season at Dalmatinac Park for Scott Miller. His side sits in third spot on the Football West Premier League table and they inflicted League champions Floreat Athena’s only defeat this season; the Cockerels winning 2-1 at home in a tight quarter-final struggle. Cockburn completed a hat-trick of Cup triumphs in the 80’s – 1983, 1984, and 1985 - and will hope to add another trophy this season but will have to overcome the side from Francis Street first.
In goal Dino Pacella has been in outstanding form this season along with Shane Nunes in the back line. In midfield the talented Michael Mirco will need to be closed down by the Swans along with youngster Aaron Dos Santos. Up front Josh Kamasz has already showed the Swans what he can do with a hat-trick in the league meeting in round11 in the Swan Valley and his partnership with Johnny Mirco will be critical on Saturday.
In the earlier games Cockburn City meet First Division Forrestfield United in the Under 23’s Semi-Final at 12.45pm and Cockburn City meet Western Knights in the Under 18’s Semi-Final at 10.45am. Football West Match Reporter - Peter Simcox.

It took Cockburn a while to get going against Melville City as Melville put up a good showing and they had their chances in the first half but we kept our discipline and shape to hold off Melville for most of the first half until we scored towards the end of the half after a penalty miss.
In the beginning of the second half we started to dominate and play some good football and play as a team, we scored 5 goals within 30 minutes until we let Melville score 3 easy goals within the last 10 minutes of the game. We lost concentration and discipline.

PREMIER LEAGUE Round 17
COCKBURN vs INGLEWOOD UNITED
Inglewood United handed out a lesson in finishing to inflict a 3-0 defeat on Cockburn City at Clipsal Stadium. Not a lot went right for Cockburn who dominated the game for lengthy periods but failed to convert chances into goals. Swift movement of the ball allowed Cockburn to asserted their authority early, however, it wasn’t until the 16th minute that Adam Surjan called Oliver Taseski into action. Inglewood’s first venture into the 18-yard box three minutes later resulted in a penalty for Alan Dunlop’s sloppy challenge on Kevin Griffiths who, after dusting himself off, converted to give the home team an undeserved lead. This only further fired up Cockburn and Giovanni De Bartolo was denied the equaliser by a stunning reflex save from Taseski. Liam Lilly should have done better than head weakly at the ‘keeper from Dom De Felice’s deep corner, and a fierce strike by Surjan was prevented from finding the bottom corner by Danny Kovacevic. Inglewood sparked late in the half and Shane Nunes scramble a Griffiths’ shot off the line seven minutes from the break. Dean Wallace squandered a golden opportunity on the hour by heading high unchallenged with just the ‘keeper to beat. It was a miss that would haunt the visitors as two minutes later Albert Osei-Tutu latched on to Dean Apelgren’s pass and charged past his marker to angle across Dunlop and inside the far post. Cockburn’s day worsened on 71 minutes when Referee Steven Gregory left all bewildered after issuing Johny Mirco two yellow cards within moments of eachother. Inglewood capitalised and three minutes later Osei-Tutu brilliantly turned Mario De Felice and tucked in his second of the afternoon from 9-metres. Shortly after Michael Baczynski released Osei-Tutu who jinxed his way past the ‘keeper but was denied a hat-trick by Nunes’ superb blocking tackle and a goal line clearance by Paul Natale. Cockburn’s day was best summed up by a late glancing header from Michael Mirco which he angled just past the post.

ECU Joondalup welcome Cockburn City to University’s ground this Saturday, 1 September for the Football West Match of the Week in Round 19 of the State Premier League.
With both sides out of League contention, pride and table position is to play for with both sides potentially using the fixture to blood some talented youngsters in preparation for season 2008.
ECU have a proud unbeaten home record to maintain and will face a tough test against a Cockburn side smarting from their defeat to soon to be League Champions Floreat last weekend. Willie McNally can call upon the experience of evergreen Mark Lee through the midfield, whilst Marc Anthony will be looking to prove he can mix it with the big teams of the competition after being well held by Floreat two weeks ago.
Cockburn have surrendered second position on the league table to Perth and will be looking to reclaim that as the season draws to a close in the coming weeks. It has been an impressive debut season for new coach Scott Miller however he will feel the job is not yet done and will be keen to see his side improve their poor away record so far in 2007.

Cockburn City vs. Floreat Athena Its make or break for League hopefuls Cockburn City in a mouth watering round 18 Match of the Week clash against Floreat Athena at Dalmatinac Park this Saturday. After 17 rounds of the League campaign, the top two now face off for a crunch match with the League title up for grabs. The situation is simple for Cockburn; anything but a win will hand the championship to Athena who hold an eight point advantage over their southern rivals. Cockburn are coming off of a shock 3-0 loss to Inglewood United and can thank ECU Joondalup for two late goals in a 2-2 draw with Floreat for keeping their slim hopes alive. Scott Millers’ men have been in tremendous home form and will still remember their recent 2-1 victory over Athena in the Soccer Pools Cup only a month ago. An attacking lineup will be tempered by the loss of the suspended Jonny Mirco while Shane Nunez and Liam Lilly will need to be at their best to curb top scorer Jerry Karpeh. The scenario is a little easier for Michael Roki's Floreat with a potential three points putting his side within two points of claiming the title whilst a draw will maintain their eight point advantage. Even a loss will still see Floreat maintain a five point buffer with four matches to go. YES The Masters of Cockburn City are still top of the league believe it or not!
It was a great effort by all the players and we would like to thank all of the mothers who came to support us on Mothers Day.
John Loreto had the backline under control with no stress. Simon (Woody) was on fire scoring a HAT TRICK for the first time this year, which cost him a carton for the boys. Big Lee and Andy scored 2 goals a piece and Mario stuck his big toe to the ball and it trickled in to score another (we where sure it was going in anyhow!)

This was Cockburn’s City Master first home game of the season and there was a lot of support for the masters which was appreciated by the players. After a very sluggish start and a very sloppy goal conceded by Cockburn in the first half, we could not wait for the half time break. After half time Cockburn came out and started to play football and started to dominate the game. The goal eventually came half wat through the second half from a cross by Andy Wheatley to the level the score. We kept plugging away and dominating the game, we just couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net. The game could have been won in the last few minutes of the game when the ball was whipped across goals from the left by Eddy with one of our players coming into the back post for the ball to hit both thighs and just missing the open goal.
Cockburn Masters are still undefeated so far this year and are sitting second on the ladder.

Round 15 – STIRLING LIONS 4 - 1 COCKBURN CITY
[by FOOTBALL WA – on Evans]
A virtuoso performance from 16-year old
Dannie Richman provided the catalyst for a
second half goalfeast as Stirling Lions belted
Cockburn City 4-1 at Macedonia Park. It took
only 10 minutes for Stirling to open their
account when Steve Porter's cross into a
goalmouth was headed down
by Andy Brown for Keith
Brown to poke in at close-
range. Stirling applied further
pressure with Phil Arnold and
Tom Jones menacing a
visiting defence in which
Shane Nunes and Liam Lilly
stood tall. Cockburn
responded in the 22nd minute
when Aaron Dos Santos
belted a cracking left-footer
from 18-metres into the bottom
corner following excellent lead-
up work by Josh Kamasz.
Both teams went within of
claiming the lead with Arnold
firing just wide after a driving
solo run, and Paul Natale's dangerous cross
narrowly evaded the head of a diving Nunes.
Richman came off the
bench shortly before the
break as replacement for
Jones who'd succumbed to
injury, and within minutes
the teenager surged past
two defenders to set-up
Keith Brown who
disappointingly lifted his
shot high of the crossbar. Five minutes into the
second half Alan Muir played a brilliant through
ball which Porter drilled past an advancing
Alan Dunlop to put Stirling back in front. The
difference became two goals on 65 minutes
when a precision cross by Richman allowed
Andy Brown to cleverly side
foot in on the turn. As the half
wore on Cockburn found
themselves reduced to playing
a long ball game in the hope
that Kamasz or Johnny Mirco
could provide some spark up
front. Kevin Henderson put the
icing on Stirlings' cake in the
85th minute by converting at close-range a
long throw in from Arnold.

COCKBURN CITY (2) Vs FLOREAT ATHENA (1) Dalmatinac Park
Cockburn City has advanced to the semi finals of the Soccer Pools Cup after holding out a desperate Floreat Athena 2-1 at Dalmatinac Park.
A goal either side of half time from Johnny Mirco had Cockburn in a steady position before Floreat midfielder Josip Magdic pulled a goal back with ten minutes remaining, leaving a tense final finish with the home side hanging on to progress to the semi finals.
Floreat went into the clash missing midfielder Adam Bachiller but were boosted by the return of Magdic and striker Branimir Mikulic. It was a tight opening between the league’s two best sides with both defences forming a solid brick wall against the formidable strike forces led by Jerry Karpeh and Josh Kamasz.
Karpeh, who leads the Golden Boot tally, has been a revelation for Athena this season but the exciting striker was given limited opportunities in the first half with versatile defender Liam Lily restricting any movement. Neither team could construct a clear cut chance until the 38th minute when Stefan Smiljanic found space in the box but his shot was high and wide.
Cockburn on the other hand were clinical when given a sight on goal and a neat one-two between Mirco and Dominic De Felice had the home side in front with only minutes remaining before the break.
Mirco was proving the difference in the contest and eight minutes after the interval, he doubled Cockburn’s lead when he finished coolly after an unselfish layoff from Josh Kamasz. Mirco could have had his hat-trick ten minutes later when he beat the offside trap but his shot was struck at the body of Vujacic.
Floreat coach Michael Roki brought on talented former Glory player Josip Magdic to inject some fight into a flat Athena forward line and his presence on the park was imminent. With only 15 minutes remaining, the visitors were piling on the pressure and they were eventually rewarded when Magdic met a deep corner at the back post.
Athena threw everything forward for an equalizer but the Cockburn defence of Nunes, Lily and Godfrey were magnificient and stood firm, not giving an inch. Karpeh, finally found space in injury time and although he finished superbly into the net, he was adjudged offside and seconds later the referee blew full time to the joy of a jubilant home crowd.

Cockburn City (2) vs. Armadale (1). The pressure is mounting at the top of the Football West Premier League table after Cockburn City continued their recent winning form with a 2-1 victory over a gallant Armadale at Dalmatinac Park. Two goals in the opening twenty minutes to Paul Natale and Aaron Dos Santos was enough for the three points despite a second half rally from the visitors, who were spurred on by a passionate and vocal group of supporters spread along the banks of the Southern Suburbs venue.
Cockburn went into the match missing the Mirco brothers and Coach Scott Miller was forced to field a younger side however the midfield pace of Aaron Dos Santos and Adam Surjan was damaging in the opening stages. It was defender Paul Natale though who opened the scoring, after a storming run into the penalty area, he struck his left foot shot past goalkeeper Cyril Sharrock to give the home side the lead.
The visitors could have drawn level only minutes later with Neil Gawley and Ryan Pearson wasting golden opportunities after getting into great positions. Cockburn on the other hand were clinical and midfielder Aaron Dos Santos doubled his sides lead when he unleashed a long range shot which cannoned off the inside of the post before bouncing over the line.
Armadale’s group of supporters were not deterred by the goals and continued to sing and chant as their team searched for an avenue to goal. After the half time team talks, the visitors returned to the pitch desperate for a result however their delivery and ball control in the final third was poor.
Coach Billy Russell urged his team to lift and they started to apply the pressure with Dino Pacella called on to make a number of timely intercepts. They were finally rewarded for their hard work on 72 minutes when a great run and ball from Marlon Ramirez slipped through the Cockburn defence to a vacant Goodwin who poked his shot home from close range.
The visitors searched desperately for an equalizer throwing everyone forward in the final stages but it was Cockburn keeper Dino Pacella who had the last laugh diving to stop Stephen Skilandis’s point blank shot in the last kick of the game.
Cockburn will be favorites to continue their un-beaten streak next weekend when they tackle Wanneroo City while Armadale will take plenty of confidence into a home clash with Sorrento.

Cockburn took the lead in the 6th minute through Shane Nunes. The defender was forward for a corner and firmly headed the ball from 8 yards, leaving Inglewood ‘keeper Oliver Taseski stranded. Twelve minutes later City doubled their lead through Dean Wallace, who tapped in from six yards after brilliant lead-up play from Josh Kamaz and Jason Dos Santos.
The tempo of the match slowed down after the second goal with Cockburn content to play cautiously without being too defensive. The best chance for the remainder of the half fell to Daniel Neiderberger, who’s shot on the volley from 18 yards sailed narrowly over.
Cockburn almost extended their lead in the 46th minute, when Kamaz had his 20 yard effort brilliantly saved by Taseski.
United were unlucky not to score in the 62nd minute when lively winger Jason Colli was played in-behind but had his shot brilliantly saved by the Cockburn ‘keeper, who got down to the low shot just in time. Colli was sent off just seconds later for a second yellow card, leaving Inglewood with little chance of saving the game. Cockburn came close to putting the icing on the cake in the 90th minute when Mileta Miletic had his close range shot bounce off the post.
Cockburn coach Miller was understandably pleased with the effort of his side. “That was probably the first game that we’ve played for 90 minutes and we played some really nice football,” Miller said.
“We’re very happy with the result of course but more importantly we played some good football.”
Inglewood coach Despotovski was not impressed with the performance of the traveling side. “We absolutely deserved to be 2-0 down and they deserved to beat us,” said Despotovski.
“We played very undisciplined football today and too their credit they scored two good goals so we didn’t deserve to get anything out of today.”

Round 6 - Stirling L
Date: 19/05/07
Cockburn City vs. Stirling Lions Saturday, 19 May – 3.00pm An entertaining battle looms this Saturday at Dalmatinac Park in Spearwood when Cockburn City hosts an in-form Stirling Lions outfit. Cockburn currently sit fifth on the Football West Premier League ladder with a 3:2 win/loss ratio; the two losses being away from home against arguably the two best teams in the competition, Perth and Floreat. They have been in tremendous form at their home ground recording wins over reigning champions Sorrento, Night Series Finalists ECU Joondalup and most recently Inglewood. Coach Scott Miller will hope Josh Kamasz can continue his excellent start to the season while veterans Dean Wallace and Michael Mirco will provide valuable experience in attack. Centre back Shane Nunes has been solid in defence and along with Peter Kuzet and Paul Natale, they present a tough assignment for the Stirling strikers. Stirling’s form has been impressive the last two weeks recording comprehensive victories over Swan I.C 3-1 before blitzing Sorrento 4-0 at Macedonia Park. The Lions have yet to lose a game this season but will face their toughest test against Cockburn. Young talent Ludovic Boi will be brimming with confidence after scoring twice on the weekend while striker David Dugdale poses a daunting proposition for the Cockburn backline. With a blend of young and experienced attacking players on both teams, the match is destined for a shootout and all supporters shouldn’t miss what could be one of the games of the season so far. Damatinac Park
Cockburn City and Stirling Lions have fought a tight 1-1 draw in front of a boisterous home crowd at Dalmatinac Park in Spearwood. A controversial second half penalty from Kevin Henderson cancelled out Jason Dos Santos opener in the 63rd minute on an overcast afternoon in the Southern Suburbs.
Cockburn was yet to drop a point at home this season and Stirling were hoping to ruin that streak dominating the early stages of the first half with former City player David Dugdale putting the ball in the back of the net after only 8 minutes; however he was adjudged offside by the linesman. The visitors midfield led by dynamo Ludovic Boi was threatening on the counter and Cockburn could have found themselves behind on a number of occasions in the opening stanza if not for versatile goalkeeper Dino Pacella.
It took 30 minutes for Cockburn to hit their straps and in-form striker Josh Kamasz almost had the home side in front when a great ball from Michael Mirco fell to the feet of the youngster, but his shot was well blocked by Stirling custodian Phil Straker.
Fundamental errors crept into the game in the second half with neither side able to construct any opportunities. Veteran Johnny Mirco tried to breathe life into his side with his storming runs forward but it was another excitement machine that delivered the opening goal after 63 minutes; Jason Dos Santos danced his way through the Lions defence before unleashing a powerful low shot which ricocheted off a defender’s foot, ultimately rolling past a helpless Straker in the Stirling goal.
The goal lifted the spirits in the camp and a minute later Josh Kamasz could have doubled the lead for the home side but his shot from a tight angle was blocked out again by Straker.
The referee was in the thick of the action after awarding a penalty against defender Shane Nunes for a tackle on Andy Brown. Players surrounded the referee about the decision but it mattered little to Kevin Henderson who stepped up to power home the equalizer.
In a tense final twenty minutes neither side had a chance to break the deadlock and both teams shared the points.
After the match, Cockburn coach Scott Miller expressed his disappointment with the performance but commended his hardworking midfielder Jason Dos Santos. “We didn’t play well, Stirling dominated the game and we were nowhere near it. We lacked good tackles and when we received the ball we just didn’t break quick enough,” he said.
“Jason is learning how to defend now, he’s really worked hard to improve that aspect of his game and he’s getting better and better each week.”
Stirling Lions coach Mick Lyons felt his team were very unlucky to not go away with all three points. “We thought we started off really bright, had a flat twenty minutes at the end of the first half but I felt we deserved to win the game,” said Lyons.
Stirling will face their toughest task next weekend when they meet Floreat Athena at Macedonia Park on Sunday with the match being broadcast live by 90.5 FM. Cockburn will meet Freo Spirit at the Spanish Club in the eagerly anticipated Southern Derby.

Fremantle Spirit (1) vs. Cockburn City (1)
Fremantle Spirit and Cockburn City fought out an entertaining 1-1 draw in the southern suburbs derby of round seven of the Football West State Premier League at the Spanish Club this afternoon.
A drab first half gave way to an end to end attacking affair in the second as referee Angelo Nardi handed out three penalties, two of which were converted.
Cockburn were the first to benefit on 66 minutes after striker Dean Wallace was fouled just inside the area following a run from the influential Jason Dos Santos which saw him beat four defenders before a great block by Spirit keeper Stephen Grant pushed the ball wide where Wallace was fouled. Dos Santos stepped up to take the penalty but saw his low effort rebound off the post to Michael Mirco whose first time effort went across goal and off the other upright.
Before Cockburn had a chance to curse their luck, the ball was at the other end of the ground and Nardi pointed to the spot for the second time in two minutes after the fantastic Shane Nunes had a cross from substitute Callum Roberts smack into his hand from close range. Spirit Captain Dale Wingell stepped up and showed how to take a penalty with a calm finish high into the net with Dino Pacella going the wrong way.
But just as Freo were heading towards another famous victory the third penalty of the day was awarded after a long free kick from the Cockburn half was flicked on into the box where Spirit veteran Alex Christie handled the ball just inside the area. John Mirco confidently grabbed the ball and fired it high into the net to level the game and give both sides a share of the points with only four minutes left to play.
It was a listless first half from both sides with possession frequently turned over and chances at a premium. Fremantle’s best chance fell to last week’s goal scoring hero Sebastian Booysen but his flick from six yards flew past the upright after a short corner routine caught the Cockburn defence napping.
On the stroke of half time Cockburn should have taken the lead after Dos Santos played a delightful ball on the counter through to substitute Marco Aleksic, on for the injured Josh Kamasz, but with only the keeper to beat rolled his shot past the post under pressure from the recovering defender.
Cockburn dominated the early stages of the second half with Grant called on to make a smart block from John Mirco five minutes after the restart. Moments later and great interplay down the Cockburn left between John Mirco, Dos Santos and Aleksic saw the latter curl in a back post cross where the unmarked Dean Wallace controlled but blazed his second touch over the bar from four yards with the keeper scrambling.
At the other end Wingell headed into the side netting after a speculative deep cross from Simon Elton-Bott found his captain before Angelo Nardi awarded the game changing penalties. Fremantle could have wrapped up the points on the 80 minute but Jason Barrera’s effort was brilliantly deflected wide by Pacella before the same player had a stinging volley parried wide only minutes later. Cockburn however never gave up and got a deserved goal five minutes before time after Mirco’s penalty found the net.

Armadale vs. Cockburn City
Armadale welcome in-form Cockburn City to Alfred Skeet Oval on Saturday in round nine of the Football West State League.
Armadale come off the back of a hard-earned point against Sorrento last week and are arguably only a few points off securing their League status for the 2008 season, as they currently sit in eighth position with seven points. Despite only having one victory to their name, against Swan IC in round seven, Armadale are proving a hard team to beat with Billy Russell’s side managing four draws so far.
Scott Miller’s Cockburn are coming off of a 6-0 thrashing of lowly Wanneroo City in the previous round and will be looking for the three points that will maintain the pressure on the top sides. But as we have seen so far in 2007, any side can manage a result and the match is sure to be another one to watch as the championship begins to take shape.
