At Cockburn City we aim to provide the required environment necessary to promote and develop our players to express their individual talents at the highest level available to them.
We have nurtured many talents in the past such as Robert Zabica, Jason Petkovic, Michael Petkovic, Anthonio Naglieri, David Tarka and Scott Miller.
Cockburn City are now into the fourth year of our Junior Development Program and 5 year plan for the juniors in the Cockburn area, which started in 2006 under the direction of Gareth Naven (former Perth Glory) and Alistair Edwards (former Perth Glory and Socceroos).
In recent seasons we have help to develop a number of State players in various age groups with many of these now involved in the National Training Centre (NTC) program and we have boys in the Qantas Joeys (Australia U-17) commencing their competitive international football careers and boys selected for a scholarship in the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).
The ongoing education of the clubs junior coaches and continuous assessment of teaching practises that was started is leading the way to make Cockburn City Soccer Club the benchmark for the future of juniors in the state. We now have girl’s teams, women’s teams and a Master’s and Social team training alongside our junior and senior teams, as soccer is growing as a sport in Western Australia and Nationally.
This year we have 20 junior teams, 2 women’s teams and a Master’s team as well as our 3 senior teams. We expect football to continue to grow as a sport in Australia especially as the Socceroos are representing Australia this years 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
We hope you will enjoy the game of football whether you are watching or playing at Cockburn City Soccer Club.
Good Luck to all our teams.
Cockburn City Soccer Club’s origin goes back to 1929 when we were known as Spearwood Rovers. This club split into two clubs in the early 60’s to become ‘Spearwood Dalmatinacs’ and ‘Cockburn United’. The two clubs enjoyed success in the period after, with facilities close to each other at Dalmatinac Park and Beale Park, both of which are still used today for our Junior and Senior teams.
The clubs reunited in 1998 under the negotiations of Angelko Petkovich and John Mijacika and became the Cockburn City Soccer Club of today.
